1.In the past

Guizhou Medical University was one of the two institutions in Guizhou to offer doctoral degrees in 2003 and was among the first batch of Chinese universities to receive approval from the Ministry of Education to award master’s degrees in 1981. Later, GMU created a post-doctoral research institute in 2010 and was named the only institution that awarded medical doctor degrees.

Currently, GMU offers 53 master’s degrees, 33 undergraduate programs, 1 PhD program with 7 sub-majors, and 1 postdoctoral research institute. Nine associated hospitals, seven cooperating hospitals, one cooperating clinic medical school, 23 teaching hospitals, and fifteen training hospitals are under the supervision of GMU.

Guizhou Medical University was known for its four national tertiary education units, one national laboratory teaching exemplary center, one national teaching exemplary team, three national key secondary education majors, three key laboratories approved by the Ministry of Education, seven provincial key majors, five provincial clinical key majors, one Development and Application Center of Ethnodrugs approved by the Ministry of Education, two provincial key laboratories, and eight provincial exemplary undergrad programs. Over 15,000 full-time students are enrolled there at the moment, with more than 25% of them enrolled in master’s and doctoral programs.

The library of Guiyang Medical College was founded in 1938. The library now spans over 13420.32 square meters and houses over 540,000 volumes of books, including 100,000 volumes of English, Japanese, Russian, and German books or journals, as well as electronic databases like WanFang database (available for 8 years), Medline (available for 21 years), CBM (available for 6 years), CBD (available for 20 years), VIP (available for 14 years), OVID (including 4 core collections), OVID LWW, and EBSCO.

In addition, we can share the electronic resources with any other college or university in Guizhou Province, including the China academic journal database and China d-library, relying on the China Education Scientific Research Network and Campus Area Network. The library’s collection of resources is worth more than 6,800,000 RMB. The library currently employs 31 people, including 1 doctor, 3 professors, and 9 affiliated professors.

The library at Guiyang Medical College is a member of the Guizhou Province Library Institute, the Guizhou Province Information Institute, and the China University Medicine Library Community Association.It serves as the provincial hub for medical information and the secretary library of the university library committee for Guizhou Province. The China Medicine Information Center’s third grade,

It offers information services to the entire province. It is in charge of providing retrieval instruction to both the medical professionals of the Guizhou Province and the students at our college. The library’s information center offers the Guizhou Province’s scientific subject study on medicine.

5. Research in Science

The Drug Research and Development Center was founded by Guizhou Medical University with the goal of creating a dedicated, cohesive, resourceful, and innovative scientific research team. In 2005, the Guizhou Center for Research Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ethnic Medicines (GCRDTCMEM) was established at GMU with the help of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of Science and Technology.

The Center has a laboratory space of around 2500 m2, where equipment worth more than 10 million yuan is installed to accommodate the expanding research needs. The Center has received more than 10 million yuan in research funding throughout the course of the last few years of TCM modernization, and it has a number of original innovations with independent intellectual property rights in many important technological fields. The study team conducts investigations on genetic diversity and relevant disease genes in Guizhou’s ethnic groups in an effort to raise awareness of the region’s distinctiveness. More than 20 STR and SNP loci of the mitochondrial DNA (maternal inheritance) and Y chromosome (paternal inheritance) polymorphism sites have been the subject of systematic studies by the research team in several ethnic groups.

More than 90 research papers have been published in domestic and international journals, of which 1 was included in SCI and 40 were published in key journals. The research team has won 24 research projects ranging from national, ministerial, and provincial level, with a total research fund of RMB 1.8 million. The team has already received two awards for innovation in science and technology from Guizhou province and Guiyang Municipality.

7. Cooperation and Communication

Guizhou University of Medicine GMU benefited from more recognition and influence due to its consistently growing teaching and research capabilities. More than ten national academic conferences have been held at GMU in recent years, and the university has developed excellent relationships with renowned institutions in the United States, Sweden, Japan, and other nine nations. Scholars and faculty from various nations paid a total of 170 visits to GMU, while 213 domestic visitors came for international and domestic cooperation.

GMU places a strong emphasis on developing its own potential, sending 400 students overseas each year for international conferences and academic study. Global communication and collaboration are constantly developing, which has improved the teaching and research capabilities of GMU’s professors. The university is also a valuable research partner of the Karolinska Institute of Sweden and the NIH of the United States, as well as an active participant in the Chun Hui Project, which was presented by the Ministry of Education.
